Can I use a fan oven to bake my china with?
Yes, I do, but double check the oven temperature with a separate oven thermometer.
How about an AGA?
A couple of my paint customers do use an AGA, but as they run all the time and do not go cold, you will have to experiment with the time required and I can't guarantee success. If you have had success with this method, please e-mail me to let me know, so I can pass on your experiences.
How about fixing the paints using a microwave?
Sorry, no can do.
Why did my paint not resist dishwashing very well?
The most likely reason is that you have not baked them to the instructions, or your oven is actually cooler than it says on the dial, read the instructions again and double check the oven temperature with a separate oven thermometer.
Why did the colours go brown after baking?
The opposite problem to the one above. In this case you have over baked your china, you either left it too long in the oven, or your oven was too hot, time to invest in that oven thermometer!
Why did I get bubbles in the paint after baking?
You must make sure the paint is left to dry for long enough before baking, at least 24 hours, longer if it is very thickly applied.
Why don't my new Porcelaine 150 Felt Pens work?
The tips of new felt pens appear white, to get the paint to come through you must shake the pens vigorously for a minute or so, and press the tip firmly down on to a piece of paper, so that it is pressed back up into the pen itself. Repeat this until you see the ink flowing down the tip. This process should be carried out regularly, if you think your pens have dried up, chances are a quick shake and press will have them back in business.
Can I paint on any china or does it have to be special?
No, any china is O.K. It doesn't have to be white, but as most of the paints are transparent the colour of the china will show through. (Even those marked opaque aren't completely so)
Can I use paints, felt pens and outliners on the same item?
Yes, they get baked at the same temperature so there is no problem.
